LOCKDOWN LOVE

It's the time of CoVid. We all know this only too well ! But hey, if you're reading this many many years down the line, I think it would be only right to explain the situation we are in today. Year 2020 has been somewhat of a downer. Early December, a virus named Corona hit humanity like a big punch. What started in Wuhan, China, slowly spread throughout the world like wildfire. A pandemic was what it was categorized as, soon after. A virus that was so tiny but killed millions of people in a span of just 4 months and counting! As I pen this down, we are still fighting this with no vaccine in sight. But in extreme situations of negativity, a silvery ray of positivity always finds its way to come floating to the top. You just need to be able to swim far enough to see it! Here are some positive vibes I have picked up during the lockdown. Family Time   Literally being stuck here in Bombay and not being able to go back home to Singapore, allowed us to reconnect and bond with family,...

As I sit at my table in a popular coffee shop sipping on my Pumpkin spiced latte; it is Halloween season after all; I notice a few environmentally scary things that are relevant to Halloween... 1. The straw I used for my drink 2. The number of plastic coffee cups around me 3. The trash cans filled to the brim 4. The number of lights on in a brightly lit room in the day 5. People walking around with plastic bags Why do I notice this around Halloween? Well, for one, it is known to be a scary and ghostly festival. But what is scary is that ordinary sightings are adding to the list of scares impacting the environment. How can we change this? 1.  The straw in my cup could have been replaced considering I am sitting in the store and not moving around with my coffee. 2. If I am indeed deciding to sit in the store to have my drink, can I not use a ceramic or paper cup instead? 3. The trash cans are full because of what we feed it. Think about every item we discard so easily an...

To Town and Back...!

"What's wrong," she asked. I looked at her curiously and said, "Absolutely nothing! Why would there be something wrong on a day like this?" Confused? I am talking about the stunning weather that Bombay is experiencing this very minute! Light blue clouds and windy skies; can it get any better? While I was lying around on the ' katta' just staring into nothingness, my sister seemed to have got a little worried about my condition! Our morning started early, giving us more hours in this day. We stepped out of home at 7 only to drive to town and meet a certain gentleman at the Taj. Following which our hungry tummies were satisfied by a scrumptious breakfast at Cafe Mondegar! Bacon, eggs, sausages...the works! We even had a group of Harley hurlers give us company at breakfast, only to ride off into the sunset?! No wait, that is a completely wrong image! It's more like them to snarl off into the busy, robust streets of Mumbai and then onto some wide hi...

Our Tryst with no Television!

Can you imagine living with no television ever since we shifted into our new house? Ever since meaning, almost a whole pregnancy term! So this whole time we had dramatic phrases being thrown into the air such as- "In the land of no television!", and “TV! Oh, what is that?". So much so, that with a TV being sighted in other's homes, I'm pretty sure our tongues hung out while we stared! Okay, that's a cheap exaggeration of the situation but it was definitely a sight for sore eyes! Our house help though, were most stunned with the no-TV situation and wondered aloud how we were surviving. And when told that only one TV was being put up, that came out to be a total shocker for them! Time passed and when everyone in the family heard that this prized piece of possession was being restored its honour, they said - "Let there be light" and "This is what getting back to civilization feels like!"  One would have thought that we were living in a co...

Is that silver lining close enough?

(A post I had written far back in the time. when I was only 21, and something I should have released a while ago!) This particular post has been inspired from something I read recently. Being a confused 21-yr old is probably not a new phenomena, but it's definitely new for every recently turned 21-yr old individual! It's that time of your life when you're not sure if life is being a bitch only to you or the world over. You often wonder where you lie at... Sometimes you gain clarity over the silliest of things, yet sometimes it feels like someone's used a gigantic eraser to blur your life out! The only clarity I have in recent times is that I'm on a break and I can see something very positive at the end of the horizon- a silver lining of sorts. And it's a gorgeous one I must say! But not everyone stretches far enough to see that. I think it's okay. A year back, no matter how much I stretched it was the same old, dark and disappearing shades of the suns...

The Moon is our very own tube-light!!

"Draw the blind please!" I begged. Then I jerked back into reality. My bedroom had been my very own terrace the night before! I woke up to the sounds of chirping birds, the warm sun-kissed breeze and breakfast literally in the open! And it was only the night before when I last said goodnight to the burning moon! I haven't been raised in the north, where sleeping on the terrace is something of a matter-of-fact issue. And since it is done so often, they sleep on charpoys (cots with four legs). Here I had to make the experience worthwhile! Being the last two days of my nephew being at home, I had to make his trip worth remembering. So along with baking him Oreo cupcakes and white-chocolate filled home-made, scrumptious chocolates, I decided that we should all spend the night on the terrace and in style! So we bought out our beds, laid out two side-tables, drank up some coke float and danced to music played on the laptop! Lying down beneath the stars and t...
